Learn Spanish: DVD Program May Not Be the Best Medium

When you set out to learn Spanish, I would imagine you didn´t think much about the best way to learn. Since many people decide to learn Spanish because they have a friend who speaks it or because they are getting ready to travel, it´s common to just rush out and grab whatever system they can find to learn Spanish. DVD programs are everywhere, nowadays, so it´s difficult to know which product is best for you. Let me tell you about Rocket Spanish. I learned very quickly with this program and you can too.

My wife and I have been planning a second honeymoon and we picked Spain for our destination. Barcelona to be exact. Neither of us had ever been there and we sure didn´t know any Spanish. I literally stumbled across Rocket Spanish. I was searching a way to learn Spanish; DVD programs were my first choice. But I didn´t want to spend a ton of money either.

Rocket Spanish is not your typical language instruction course. For starters, you´ll find a six day course free. You´ll get a feel for the course without having to spend a dime. If you´re like me at all, you´ll learn so much in just those six days you won´t even believe it. That free course made it pretty easy to want the complete program.

This is a thoroughly interactive multimedia course. There are a couple of areas I liked better than others, and I´ll get into those shortly. This course is offered two ways: by download and by mail. The mailed version comes with course books and audio CD´s that are ready for use with an MP3 player or your home stereo. I chose this method because I have over an hour commute each day to and from work. I simply played each lessons as I drove. That was over two hours a day for to learn Spanish. DVD programs would have bored me, but at least this way, my commute went faster too.

My wife took a different approach. She is a homemaker and simply spent a few minutes a day listening to the CD´s and working through the exercise books. I had to catch up on the exercise books at night, but my wife was there to help me if I got stuck. She had already finished her lesson by the time I returned home each night.

It took us three months to get to where we felt we were able to learn Spanish. DVD programs with fancy graphics might be fine with some people, but this worked best for us. I did have a couple of issues with the program. I wish there were more than 25 CD´s. I feel like my Spanish is coming along very well, and there is an advanced program with Rocket Spanish, but I just want more now. I have truly gotten the bug now to learn Spanish. DVD courses wouldn´t have worked so well with me. It took me popping in a CD´s for two hours a day to realize that I can learn Spanish. I hope they will come out with a more “advanced’ advanced program, so I can get even more fluent than I already am now.

For those of you that want to learn Spanish, DVD systems may be best for you. Try out the six day free course. You have nothing to lose. If after that you want to learn Spanish DVD style, best of luck to you. I don´t that will be an issue though.
