Spanish Language Sites

Spanish language sites abound on the Internet. After English, Spanish is the most popular language to learn, especially in the United States where it is commonly taught in schools. Worldwide, some 14 million people are learning Spanish. No wonder than that there are so many Spanish language sites.

Most of the Spanish language sites are selling a course on how to learn Spanish. Not so long ago this would be in the shape of a dozen or so tapes or CD's with several books to accompany them. These days' Spanish learning courses are increasingly coming into line with the latest technology and capabilities of the Internet. Downloadable audio files are replacing CD's and ebooks are replacing printed matter.

Apart from that, Spanish language sites are little different to the direct mail companies that proliferated, and still do, in an earlier time. Their main aim was to sell Spanish learning courses or books to the millions of people eager and keen to learn to speak the Spanish language.

There are many Spanish language sites that do not try to sell you anything, at least not directly. They offer online lessons free of charge. Some of these sites are very good too and you can learn a great deal from them. Of course, many of them only go so far in their teaching. You often have to upgrade to a paid course to complete your training, which of course they hope you will. However, these sites can teach you a lot before you have to pay.

The Internet has changed so much in our lives in the past 10 years or so. Some of the things now possible would not have been conceivable in the early days. Now you can buy a high quality course from any one of a dozen Spanish language sites, pop it on your iPod and learn as you drive to work, go to the shops, pick up the kids from school, jog in the park, or anything else you have to do.

Anyone who bought a Spanish language course some 30 or 40 years ago, before Spanish language sites were even thought of, will remember the hassle of reel-to-reel tapes. They worked well enough, but they certainly lacked a degree of portability. They were cumbersome and fiddly to use and finding a particular point in the tape was never easy.

The advent of cassette tapes was certainly an advance, but again they lacked easy search facilities. The books that invariably accompanied these mail order courses were every bit as good as the books of today in good solid content.

However, "solid" is perhaps the best way to describe them. They lacked a light-hearted approach that made the learning fun. Many of today's ebooks found in Spanish language sites emphasize an easy to learn attitude that really works for most people.

As well as the many Spanish language sites springing up everywhere there are other sites that offer reviews of them. Of course, they are trying in most cases to influence your buying decision, but if you keep that in mind, they can be very useful when it comes to making a decision. Spanish language sites are not always the sites that actually teach you the language.
